Kids love to climb,
and the more variety
you have, the more
they love it. This small
frame is made of
pine logs with a grid
of ropes. Ensure the
gaps between ropes
are 230-350mm.
Also, check that any
smaller places are less
than 600m m from the
ground. Children need
to be supervised by
an adult when playing
on this A-frame.

screw sides to ends using 100mm
batten screws, predrilling first. Then
screw base sleepers to sides and ends
after making sure planter is square.
STEP 2
Make a second frame of
remaining sides and ends, and place
on top of first frame.
STEP 3
Clad sides with 90m m
decking, butted hard up against each
other. Nail bottom 3 rows to bottom
sleepers and base only, and top
2 rows to top of planter only.
P la n te r
This planter can stand beside or on
the deck and is made of treated
sleepers with decking boards for a
neat finish. The top and bottom of
the planter lock together but are not
fixed, so they can be pulled apart.

HERE’S HOW
STEP 1
Roll each post against a straight wall,
then, without moving post, use a tape measure to
mark top surface of post 50mm (half diameter)
from wall at each end. Use these marks to align the
log on a mitre saw so, when you cut the 45° mitre
at each end, the angles will be correctly aligned.
STEP 2
Screw together logs using 1 50mm
batten screws. Make a second frame in the same
way and paint both in the colour of your choice.
STEP 3
From inside of each corner, measure
250m m along each pole, predrill and drive in
50mm screw eyes. The centre distance between
eyes should be 300mm. Once started, it’s easiest
to drive the eyes by putting a screwdriver through
eye and winding it in.
STEP 4
Tie off 1 end of rope and start feeding
it through eyes, in pattern of your choice, making
sure there are no small spaces high up.
STEP 5
Finally, lash tops of 2 frames together
at each end with 10mm sisal rope, then add a
rope stay at each end at bottom to hold frames
760mm apart. Now, let the fun begin!
